Ten on Tuesday - Gratitude Edition

Carole's prompt this week is 10 Things You're Grateful for This Week.  Visiting the Boston Marathon monument certainly put things in perspective.  So, 10 things I'm grateful for are...

1.  That they caught the bad guys.

2.  Family that we love and who love us back.

3.  The ability to travel.

4.  The presence of my Dad. He does so many little things for us that add up to so much.  He fills my sugar bowl...need I say more?

5.  My house and job and car and kitchen and all the things we take for granted everyday that provide so much.

6.  Dan's safety and ability to adjust to new surroundings.

7.  That Mary introduced me to FMS photo a day.  It really has given me an opportunity to think outside the box.

8.  That Doug always takes care of me.  (Thanks for cleaning that upstairs shower!)

9.  My girlfriends.

10.  There are people in the world like my pal Cindy who adopt rescue dogs!  Lucky Scout.

Sunday Fun Day

Just some snippets from a nice Sunday.  A couple of drinks at the Summer Shack, a little bit of baseball, a stroll through the streets of Boston and a stop at the Boston Marathon Memorial.  Pretty great day.  How was your weekend?

Fashion First

I'm not really very showy.  If you walked by a row of people and I was there it is very unlikely that you would notice me.  And really, I don't think that's a bad thing.  If I want you to see me I can get that done.  But there is one thing...I match.  My socks match my shirt or pants pretty much every day.  In the summer my sandals or flip flops have to match the shirt or skirt or shorts. Fortunately I wear a lot of white shirts and black shirts. It's a bit of a problem some days...those days when I HAVE NOTHING THAT MATCHES!!! But we deal.

Recently I got a new pair of running shoes.  They were a bit over the top for me.  Like the fancy heel.  And the crazy (PURPLE! AND AQUA!) color scheme.  But it was my brand of shoe, and it had treated me right so with the new style and colors I went.

And then...I got to torture my running partners.  I saw that my running coat matched!

And the top Dan gave me for Christmas matched!

And every time I went running if I wanted to I could match! I don't know if you realize how fun this can be in my world.  But it's fun.

So, Doug bought me some new hiking poles.  I have turned my nose up at them for a few years, but you know, a big fall can humble a girl.  Well they arrived today.  And can you imagine my delight when I found...THEY MATCH!

Here's a little treat from the neighbor's yard. And thanks for tolerating all the caps!

Ten on Tuesday - Ice Cream Edition

I'm not a huge ice cream eater. Once or twice a summer and that pretty much fits the bill.  My forever favorite, Friendly's Fudge Ripple has been pulled from the regular rotation I believe and other than Totally Turtle, that's about it.  Except...a big fat hot fudge sundae.  Today Carole has asked us to name our Top Ten Ice Cream Toppings.  So...if I was going to top my plain old ice cream with something...

1.  Hot Fudge.
2. Whipped Cream.
3.  Nuts.
4.  Caramel sauce.
5.  Chocolate sprinkles...no colored sprinkles...everrrrrr.
6.  A poached egg.  (Isn't that all the rage right now???)
7.  Crushed peanut butter cups.
8.  A soft serve with chocolate covering.
9.  Strawberries.
10. Squish it on top of a chocolate brownie.

How 'bout you?

Ten on Tuesday - The Memorial Day Weekend Edition

Wow…what a freezing cold weekend! Until yesterday and boy was it beautiful! It was a busy, busy weekend full of exercise, fun and friends.  Carole’s asked…what 10 things did you do this weekend?  Well…here goes.
1.       Dined with friends on Friday evening.
2.       Had a wonderful meal on Saturday night – lobster risotto, mmmmmmmm.
3.       Ran 4 miles Sunday and Monday.
4.       Attended a graduation party for a dear friend, now an RN!
5.       Shopped for flowers and some additional vegetable plants.
6.       Caught up on Nashville.  Doug thinks they’ve jumped the shark already.  Any thoughts on that?
7.       Planted the vegetable garden.
8.       Had a couple of delicious cosmos.
9.       Watched Doug hand out the trophy at the 65th Delay Memorial Golf Tournament.

10.    Crossed my fingers, arms, legs and toes as Dan headed off on his 2000 mile trek!

Ten on Tuesday - The Picnic Edition

Spring finally seems to be arriving.  The trees are getting really green now, the orioles have returned and are chattering away wildly in the yard, and we climbed the mountain for the first time together on Saturday.  Carole has prompted us this week to talk about 10 Things You Would Bring On a Picnic.  Well, we’re not big picnic folk here but we do enjoy some outdoor snacks on occasion.  We really like to go to the lake on Friday night and float around in the middle, our own Red Neck Yacht Club.  We travel to the brook on occasion with a chair and some reading.  We kayak a lot with friends.  So I guess you could consider these events picnic like.  Often they include…
1.       Wine
2.       Beer
3.       Cheese and Crackers
4.       Summer Sausage
5.       Chicken Salad Sandwiches
6.       Hummus or guacamole or salsa
7.       Fruit
8.       Great stories to tell.
9.       Sunscreen
10.   Someone you love.

Ten on Tuesday - The Mom Edition

Oh my, Moms!  We watch a fair amount of t.v. and pretty much always have.  That 9-10 p.m. wind down can erase any troubles I may have had during the day and pretty much allows for a complete and total vegetative state if necessary.  I won’t deny it…I enjoy it.  So today we’re talking about our favorite t.v. Moms.  I’m not a real detail person (I watch it and then it’s gone from my  head) but there are some characters that I love and that have made me laugh very hard in my day.  That said, there are some dark ladies too.  Let’s take a look, in no real order…

1.        Debra Barone.  The scene where she smashes the bag of donuts will stay with me forever. I think if I had a favorite she may be the one.  (Everybody Loves Raymond)

2.       Or…Kitty Foreman.  I think we would have been great friends.  Her love for Red is so real and true as is the love for her kids and their friends.  But how in God’s name could she have not known what was going on in that basement? (That '70s Show)

3.         Marie Barone.  Yes, she’s a nightmare but she’s damn funny. (Everybody Loves Raymond)

4.       Claire Dunphy.  She’s kind of humanized us I think.  Mistakes do  happen! (Modern Family)

5.       Dr. Beverly Hofstadter.  Leonard’s mom and her fabulously funny relationship with Sheldon is the bomb.  And well, I just like Christine Baranski period. (The Big Bang Theory)

6.       Tami Taylor.  Besides the fact that she’s married to hotty Eric Taylor, she was a great Mom, new Mom again and guidance counselor.  And come to think of it, I just like Connie Britton too. (Friday Night Lights)

7.       Daenerys Targaryen.  She’s got DRAGONS FOR KIDS! (Game of Thrones)

8.       Betty Draper Francis.  Betty, Betty, Betty.  I pray that woman has found birth control. (Mad Men)

9.       Miss Kay Robertson.  She’s sweet and she wrangles those Duck dudes pretty well. I’d like to join them for dinner one of these days. (Duck Dynasty)

10.    And finally...Edith Bunker.  She was a sweetie.

Don't forget to go to Carole's blog and see what everyone else is up to today! (All In The Family)
